Salad from the Black Lagoon…

Over the long weekend I was over at my chum’s place for Thanksgiving dinner and I ended up flipping through a cook book they had in their kitchen that was an awesome compilation of recipes from classic horror film stars, directors and producers. The book is titled “It Came From The Kitchen” by Geoff Isaac and Gordon Reid. One recipe in particular caught my eye- “Ben Chapman’s The Gillman’s Lagoon Salad Supreme”, I was happy to see that my monster boyfriend for life, The Creature from the Black Lagoon/Gillman had contributed his favorite dish. Perhaps, Mama Creature made this for him when he was just a Gillboy….? Actually, the recipe belongs to Ben Chapman, one of the two actors who played the Creature in the original film. Chapman portrayed the creature in all scenes that were not filmed under water. I decided that I would post this recipe on here since I think it would be a great thing to bring to any upcoming Halloween festivities. Check out  the book to see more recipes such as, Bela Lugosi’s cabbage rolls and Tippi Hendren’s red velvet cake.

Ingredients

  • 1 package small elbow macaroni
  • 1 package slivered almonds
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 package imitation lobster chunks
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • 1 package of imitation crab (can be substituted for real lobster/crab)

Dressing

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder

Cook elbow pasta in boiling water, no more than 10 minutes. (El Dente!) Drain well, after rinsing in cold water. Mix all ingredients in a large salad bowl. Fold in mixture of mayo and curry powder. (The amount of dressing is a personal preference)

Enjoy!
