Special Effects With Style, On Etsy

Thanks to a friend of mine on Facebook for showing me this awesome Etsy seller today. These are some of the most unique latex appliances I have seen and I am dying to try them out. These extra gory garters are made by OpenWoundFX based out of Los Angeles, California. The other item in their shop that really caught my eye was the Gein Shoe, and yes it is what it sounds like- an Ed Gein inspired piece of footwear. The shoe is a canvas sneaker covered in human flesh! (or umm..very realistic looking latex flesh, but regardless, these are some gross shoes – I mean that in the best way possible) Take a look at this shop, ’tis the season for human skin shoes and gaping wounds!

Film Review: All About Evil

Last night I was very excited because I finally got the chance to watch Joshua Grannell’s (aka Peaches Christ) first film, “All About Evil” (2010). I had been waiting a very long time to watch the film and I finally got myself a copy of the DVD last week from a vendor at the Toronto Underground Cinema. To start off here, I will say that I really really liked this movie, its definitely not boring in anyway or at any point. (I rarely will waste my time talking about films I don’t really care for on here, unless I deem them bad enough that people need be warned) .

“All About Evil” is a dark comedy and a horror film that pays homage to the stylings of Herschell Gordon Lewis and John Waters with its over the top gore and splatter, over the top characters and its plethora of drag queens. The film has a great cast of B-movie stars including Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) and Mink Stole (Pink Flamingos & nearly every other John Water’s film). Peaches Christ is a horror host/midnight movie mistress (Midnight Mass film series) and underground drag performer based out of San Francisco and therefore knows her stuff when it comes to what makes for an entertaining horror flick.

The movie is about a shy, mousy librarian (Natasha Lyonne) who inherits her father’s old movie theater, she decides to manage the theater independently and tries to bring a new generation of movie-goers in to appreciate the classic horror films her father would show. However, her success really starts when she accidentally makes a ‘short film’, she is caught on the theater’s security camera murdering her evil step-mom who wanted to sell the theater to Bed, Bath and Beyond and cash in on the big money. She screens the taped murder by mistake prior to one of the films and the audience loves it, deeming her a horror master and that her new brand of horror-shorts are genius. High on praise, she goes on to make a series of short films, and people remark on how realistic the blood and guts look and how authentic the acting is, funny thing is the ‘actors’ are her real life murder victims and the gore is all real. She is not alone in her movie-making she has a small and twisted crew that help her including a crackhead usher, a creepy projectionist and a set of twins who recently got out of the mental hospital. “All About Evil” is full of funny moments too, cute little inside jokes for horror fans and lots of dark and ridiculous humor.

I highly recommend that you track down a copy of “All About Evil” its worth the buy for sure. Right now the only place the DVD is available for purchase is through Peaches Christ’s website: http://store.peacheschrist.com/products/83-all-about-evil-2010-dvd-presale.aspx

Pardon, my quick and dirty review peeps, would have loved to have given more detail but then again you should just watch the movie!  I’m propped up at my desk feeling a bit under the weather today.
